By completing this survey or questionnaire, you are consenting to be in this research study. Your participation is voluntary and you can stop at any time.
On each trial, you are going to see two images made up of shapes which resemble tetris pieces -- one on the left side of the screen and one on the right side of the screen. Your task is simply to indicate whether the two central tetris pieces are identical or not. If you think they are the same, press 's'. If you think they are different, press 'd'. Try to respond as quickly and as accurately as you can.
There is one twist: the two images will always be of the same kind of pieces, but they will be rotated and they will sometimes be mirror images of each other. For example, in the images below, you can see that the two central pieces are the same: if you rotated them, they would clearly be identical. In this case, the correct answer would be to press 's', for 'same'.
Below is an example of a trial in which the displays are different. Even though the pieces are of the same kind, the central piece on the right is actually a (rotated) mirror image of the one on the left. So, in this case, the correct answer would be to press 'd', for 'different'.
You may also notice that other outside pieces will change sometimes, too -- but this is not relevant to your task. Your only task is to answer based on the central pieces, regardless of whether the other pieces move or stay the same. In the example below, the background moves, but the answer would still be 'same' because the central pieces are identical. Remember, if you think they are the same, press 's'. If you think they are different, press 'd'. Try to respond as quickly and as accurately as you can.

Press 's' for same and 'd' for different.
Remember: it is important that you do your best to respond as quickly and as accurately as possible.
